Yesterday was District 6250's first outbound/inbound orientation. As any exchange student knows, orientations are so... unexplainable. It is a unique opportunity to be around students who are experiencing the exact same excitement, struggles, curiosity, etc... about life/exchange. You could not know a SINGLE person before going to the orientation, but after about 5 minutes of mingling with the 50-some inbounds/outbounds, everyone is friends!
It is a bit strange being at the orientation, having already experienced what it is like to be an outbound, as well as an inbound, but nevertheless, it was great to connect with everyone. One major difference with the outbound class this year is that there are only TWO male outbounds and 20-some female outbounds. MEN HAVE TO STEP IT UP! Also, the country selection is a bit odd this year. Most years, many students exchange to Brazil, Japan, and France... but this year we have NULL! Mexico remains a popular destination, but many bizarre locations such as Czech Rep, India, Taiwan, and Lithuania were represented. hm... how queer.
Unfortunately our exchange orientation glory was cut short due to dangerous weather! We were not able to bond over an overly-excited chatting into ungodly hours of the night... bummer. Regardless, I am sure we didn't miss out on too much. Next orientation is set to commence sometime in March. It will be quite an opportunity to learn from the wealth of cultural experience/information that the inbound students hold, as well as to feel the familiar excitement for life that outbounds radiate!
